Games for Mixer Interactives

Unity Gameplay Engineer
July 2018 – December 2018
The first project I got hired to help out on was a series of games for Mixer, specifically for their Interactive Gaming feature; essentially a built-in stream plugin that lets viewers join and play a game on stream. Sadly, there is practically no remaining footage of the games we made. The only stuff left is a few old gifs I was able to find.
We Are Jake
We Are Jake was a weird ragdoll-ish soccer game. Viewers who joined the stream could hop in as players and participate, with the webpage piping their keyboard input through to a central game instance that was webhooked into the stream. I got brought on midway through development, and helped with some gameplay enhancements / various bugfixes / updates to webhook stuff.
King of the Jakes
King of the Jakes was the 2nd of the 3 games we were contracted to develop for Mixer Interactives, and I was given pretty much complete creative control over the game (alongside our 3D Artist, Alexei); the only requirement was that it played like a “Jake battle royale”. That eventually turned out to it playing like a Mario Party minigame where the platform slowly fell apart, and cool powerups appear.
The neatest thing about this game (and about all the mixer games we did, in general) was the iteration and feedback speed. Since we were also running the stream that the game was hosted on, we could push a new build and update the stream game almost immediately. Lots of times where we push a build, there’s some horrible gamebreaking bug, but hey, it’s no sweat, play the previous version while we just fix the bug by EOD. Very cool and unique experience.
I’ll be forever grateful for VVS being the gig that finally got my foot in the door. I barely spent a year here, but it was an interesting and educational one, for sure.
