Multiplayer Cat-And-Mouse Subterfuge

Among the Clouds is a two player asymmetric competitive game that takes place on board an airship. One player is a robot trying to escape the facility while the other player is the security system trying to identify and capture them. You can download the game here!

As the Creative Director of the team, I was responsible for doing a lot of prototype work non-stop alongside the other designers on the team, and Among the Clouds was the prototype that emerged out of our initial prototyping stage to be the game we wanted to make. Here’s a gif of an old Unity prototype version of the game:

Here’s some of the other prototype work I did for the team:

Battle of the Bands (working title), a cooperative couch-play brawler set in a musical universe, with combat centered around taking over a stage, converting the opposing band’s fans to your own, and using them to overtake your rivals!

Triple Tech is a team of 16 people from a greatly varied amount of programs here at DigiPen; 7 devs, 3 designers, 4 artists, and 3 sound designers, with a lot of position overlap. The game utilizes an in-house engine/editor in C++, but all the prototype work presented was done in Unity.

I did a considerably larger amount of design work from the onset of this project than I traditionally have done; it was a position I chose for myself, due to the way I worked on the previous project and how much I enjoyed it. I additionally contributed into the creation of our in-house engine by integrating Wwise and creating tools for the sound team, assisting with reflection and resource management systems within the engine, and producing and leading the sound design team. The mix of sound design/game design/programming roles challenged me greatly and I took a great deal of lessons away from this year-long project. Every member of the team is astonishingly talented, and it was an honor and a privilege to work with them on this project.

I’ll be continuing to work on the prototypes that I did for this team that didn’t make the cut on my own time; using Unity to prototype allows me to be extremely productive, and I will continue to flesh out the demos I’ve done to see where they will go!
